Q: How did you manage to secure an anchor position right after graduating from university?
A: I had always dreamed of becoming an anchor, and my chance came when I saw a Facebook post about a news channel looking for a female anchor. Eagerly, I applied, sending in my details and a short video of me presenting a news snippet. After a few anxious days, I was thrilled to receive an invitation for the first round of auditions. Traveling to Thimphu was both exciting and nerve-wracking. The final audition was held in a professional studio, and the competition was fierce. We were given a script to present and an impromptu segment to discuss a recent event. I focused on maintaining eye contact, clarity, and engagement throughout my delivery. A few days later, I received the life-changing call that I had been selected as the new anchor. This experience taught me the importance of preparation, confidence, and stepping out of my comfort zone. It marked the beginning of an exciting career that I had always dreamed of.

Q: How do you overcome challenges that you face as an anchor?
A: As an anchor, I’ve faced numerous challenges, especially in learning effective communication and confident presentation before large audiences. Early on, I was fortunate to have the guidance of Lopen Sonam Tenzin, whose mentorship was invaluable. His support and advice helped me navigate unfamiliar situations and develop crucial skills. His expertise and encouragement enabled me to overcome initial hurdles and gain confidence. Whether it was refining my speaking techniques or managing stage presence, his guidance was pivotal to my professional growth. A: I began singing and performing publicly during my school days, initially as a hobby nurtured through school events and local gatherings. I also participated in Voice of Bhutan Season 3. Encouraged by positive feedback from friends and teachers, I gradually transitioned to more formal events and competitions. A pivotal moment was receiving a scholarship from Voice of Bhutan, which enhanced my skills and showcased my talent on a larger platform. These experiences sharpened my singing skills and deepened my passion for performing. Performing allowed me to connect with others through music, expressing emotions, sharing stories, and entertaining listeners. Each performance contributed to my growth as a singer and performer. A: Overcoming negative comments from the public is a challenge, but I don’t receive as many as others. When I do receive them, I prioritize focusing on positive feedback and constructive criticism, which helps me maintain perspective. When faced with negativity, I use it as an opportunity for self-reflection, considering how I can improve while acknowledging my strengths. It’s crucial to maintain confidence in my abilities and not let criticism deter me from pursuing my goals. I view negative comments as a chance to learn and grow, continuously striving to better myself. Lastly, having a supportive network of friends, family, and mentors provides invaluable encouragement and helps me navigate through difficult moments with resilience.
