BKP request Dasho Neten Zangmo to stay with the party

The Bhutan Kuen-Nyam Party (BKP) has requested its President Dasho Neten Zangmo to reconsider her resignation as the party President.

Dasho Neten Zangmo had tendered her resignation letter to the party General Secretary on 16 September. However, the party revealed only on 5 November. The party spokesperson, Sonam Tobgay said that party has requested to reconsider her decision to step down as the party president as it’s difficult to find a person like her who held one of the highest civilian posts as the former chairperson of Anti- Corruption Commission.

In her resignation letter, she stated “I joined BKP because of my conviction in its leadership, its fundamental principles and it’s potential to fulfill His Majesty’s aspiration for a stronger nation through vibrant democracy and not the least of all my concern for the country. Distrust, fear and divisiveness characterize our young democracy that is bankrupt.’’ She further stated that BKP embarked with the mission to redefine politics and politicians based on its view of incorruptibility, beyond 5 years and self and independence.

The President also took the blame for the party not faring well in the primary round. “As the President of BKP, I singularly bear the responsibility for the debacle and I have to be accountable. Therefore, being fully conscious of my sacred duty and sincerely adhering to the BKP’s principle of the party taking precedence over individuals, I offer to step down from the post of party president,” Dasho Neten Zangmo wrote.

In the letter, she has forwarded to withdraw her candidature from D e w a t h a n g – G o m d a r constituency if BKP desired to explore for another strong support. None the less, she has encouraged the party to emerge as a strong party in 2023 and it has to win the election.

Sonam Tobgay said that they have high respect to Dasho Neten Zangmo withing the BKP family and expect a lot from her. “We are requesting Dasho Neten Zangmo to remain with us,” he said.

“The conscience of Bhutan Kuen-Nyam Party is still alive though the party didn’t qualify for the general election. Party’s defeat wasn’t the reason not to pursue the dream of redefining the politics for the cause of nation. BKP secured 9.78 percent in primary round election and doesn’t qualify for the state funding in 2023,” the party posted on its official Facebook page.

Dasho Neten Zangmo was the only party president who lost from her own constituency. She secured 815 postal votes and 691 votes from electronic machine, making 1,506 as total votes.
