When Sherab Dema, 3rd year Biochemistry student of Samtse College of Education won a jersey cow as a prize during the 111th National day, everybody thought she would sell it, as she is a student.
But the student from Bikhar, Trashingang had other ideas. She doesnโt want to part with the cow and its little calf. It is no ordinary prize for her. โI feel very lucky to win a lottery from our three generation Monarch on an auspicious day,โ she said
Bhutan Today caught up with Sherab Dema in Phuntsholing. She was her on the way to her village for the vacation. She said requested officials of the Samtse jersey farm to safe keep her jersey and calf a week. Notwithstanding the distance and inconvenience, she wants to take her prize home, more than 500 kilometres away from Samtse. โItโs prestigious gift from His Majesty and I will keep the cow with me only. I will not sell at any cost.
Usually college close in November but this year, as Samtse was hosting National Day celebration, students were asked to remain back.
It was a good opportunity to take part in the celebrations, said, Sherab Dema who was a dancer during the celebrations
Most of the lottery prizes were farming equipment and only jersey was the different. There were 13 different items which included brush cutter, deep freezer, milk churner, refrigerator, mini tiller, mini reaper, mini floor mill, mini rice mill and a jersey cow and calf besides some others. The winning numbers were picked by Royal Family and some top officials.
