KCR Private Limited, in collaboration with the Desuung Skilling Program, Thimphu Thromde, and the Traffic Division, is developing an innovative parking system that ensures vehicles are parked within designated lines while providing accurate billing and parking time information. This advanced system harnesses the power of state-of-the-art camera and sensor technology, seamlessly integrated into parking lots to monitor each parking space in real time. By utilizing high-resolution cameras and precision sensors, the system effectively detects the position and alignment of vehicles, eliminating wasted parking space and optimizing overall efficiency.
“The primary motivation behind the development of this application and the digitization of the parking process is to address instances where individuals evade paying the parking fees. Furthermore, we have observed cases where people occupy a parking spot from early morning and wait until the parking fee collector has left for the day, avoiding payment altogether”, said Jamyang Tenzin, General Manager, KCR Private Limited.
One of the standout features of Druk Smart Parking is its ability to provide accurate billing and parking time information. By capturing the entry and exit times of vehicles, the system will calculates the exact duration of parking and generates a corresponding parking fee. This will eliminate the need for manual calculations and potential errors, streamlining the payment process for both drivers and parking attendants.
Another key features of the Druk Smart Parking system is its intelligent parking guidance system. Equipped with high-resolution cameras and sensors, the system will accurately detect available parking spots and guide drivers to the nearest vacant space. This will eliminates the need for drivers to circle around in search of a parking spot, saving them time and reducing frustration.
Additionally, Druk Smart Parking’s system offers a user-friendly mobile application that allows drivers to reserve parking spaces in advance. Through the app, users can conveniently locate available parking spots near their destination and secure a spot with just a few taps on their smartphones. This feature is expected to significantly reduce the stress associated with finding parking in busy urban areas.
Jamyang Tenzin said, “As part of the Desuung Skilling Program, we have five talented individuals who are currently involved in the development of the innovative Druk Smart Parking application (App). This app incorporates QR codes within each parking slot, along with visible slot numbers. Upon entry, drivers will be required to scan the corresponding QR code, which will also be saved on their smartphones. Alternatively, our dedicated parking fee collectors can assist with this process. Although the mobile app was not fully completed during our initial test on the 7th, the team is diligently working towards its finalization. After the completion, for the first week, Desuups will oversee the collection process as part of a trial phase, providing valuable information to raise awareness. Subsequently, the responsibility of collecting fees will be handed over to the designated parking fee collectors.”
He emphasized, “In terms of the sensor technology, all the necessary computer systems and software will be housed in our office. This setup enables us to effectively monitor various aspects, including the number of cars in the parking lot, the duration of their stay, and the corresponding fees. The camera installed in each parking slot will capture the required information, which will be displayed in the control room. Even during late hours, such as after parties, our system will capture any violations and promptly report them to the police, ensuring that everyone pays their due fees. The implementation of this system will greatly contribute to traffic management by ensuring that vehicles are parked within designated lines. With each camera capable of covering up to five parking slots, comprehensive coverage is guaranteed.”
“While we plan to retain the majority of our existing parking fee collectors, it is important to note that some may not have the opportunity to continue in their current role if they are unable to adapt to the new digital application. The implementation of the app will require proficiency in its usage and understanding of its functionalities. Those parking fee collectors who demonstrate competence and willingness to embrace the technology will be given priority during the recruitment process. However, we will strive to provide support and training to ensure a smooth transition for all team members” he added.
There are four phase and phase one is almost completed. To ensure a systematic and efficient installation process, they have a total of approximately 200 cameras to deploy, with 50 cameras allocated for each phase. This phased approach allows them to carefully monitor and evaluate the progress and effectiveness of the system implementation. By commencing with the first phase, they can closely observe its performance and make any necessary adjustments before proceeding to subsequent phases. This strategic decision enables them to gauge the system’s functionality and address any potential challenges or optimizations, ensuring a smooth and successful overall implementation.
