The annual Punakha Tshechu which started on March 12, despite observing extreme caution, was celebrated with equal gusto according to dzongkhag officials.
However, the festival which is one of the biggest events in the dzongkhagโs annual calendar was performed without any public participation and only selective dances like the Zhana chham and the dance of the Pazaps were staged in the dzongโs courtyard.
Unlike the custom, the display of Thongdrol was also cancelled as no individuals were allowed to witness the event.
Meanwhile, His Eminence the Dorji Lopen, along with 300 monks of the Punakha Rabdey, is presiding over the annual Punakha Dromchoe which commences from today.
